Porto, Portugal (My Sportsbook) - Less than 24 hours after firing Victor Fernandez, Porto named Jose Couceiro as its new head coach on Tuesday. The 42-year-old Couceiro resigned as head coach at Vitoria Setubal to take the position, and is signed with Porto until the end of the next season. After his playing days ended at CF Estrela, Couceiro took over the presidency of the Professional Football Players' Union in Portugal. He then became the director of football at Sporting Lisbon in 1997 for two years, before taking the same post at Alverca. In his second season at Alverca, Couceiro started his coaching career prior to being promoted to Vitoria last summer. Under Couceiro's guidance, Vitoria Setubal is only six points behind Porto in Superliga action. The 44-year-old Fernandez guided Porto to a win in December's World Cup final versus Once Caldas and also took his team through the Champions League first knockout round, but the team has been down for its standards this season in Superliga action. Porto sits in third place with 34 points through 19 games this season, only winning one of its last five home matches.
