Milan, Italy (My Sportsbook) - Inter Milan and AC Milan enter the highly anticipated Milan derby on Sunday in good form. Regardless of the result, however, neither club will likely occupy the top spot when the weekend matches come to an end.
Juventus is atop the table with 16 points after six games. They play lowly Siena Saturday with a chance to open its lead to six points over AC Milan.
The highlight of the Serie A schedule, though, is clearly the Milan Derby. A raucous capacity crowd of 79,534 is expected at the San Siro and should see two clubs at the top of their game.
"We have a very important derby in front of us. Both sides are in excellent condition. Derbies are special matches, and there is no favorite," Inter defender Javier Zanetti said. "It will be a difficult game for everyone. We're in form, let's hope we show this on the pitch on Sunday."
Inter Milan has not dropped a match this season and are coming off an impeccable performance at Valencia in Champions League action. Roberto Mancini's team put a 5-1 shellacking on the Spanish champions for its third straight Champions League victory.
Domestic action has not been quite as friendly to Inter. They have yet to suffer a loss but do have four draws in six matches.
"It's important for both (teams), it would be a false step to go too far behind Juventus," Inter defender Marco Materazzi said. "We want to win the derby, just like Milan will want to."
AC Milan is coming off an equally impressive mid-week Champions League match, a 1-0 win over Spanish power Barcelona. The Rossoneri defense has slowly started to resemble last year's unit, which was the key to Carlo Ancelotti's side winning the Scudetto.
Adriano has been tremendous so far this season for Inter, scoring five Serie A and three Champions League goals. With Christian Vieri and Dejan Stankovic also working up front, AC Milan's defensive wall will have plenty to deal with Sunday. Milan defender Jaap Stam did well to slow down Barcelona and Brazilian star Ronaldinho earlier in the week. He will now try and slow down Ronaldinho's international teammate, Adriano, this weekend.
"The defense we played against Barcelona has conceded no goals in three games," AC Milan veteran defender Paolo Maldini explained of the back four, which also includes Stam, Alessandro Nesta and Cafu. "Apart from the game with Messina, our back line has always done well. We have not conceded many goals so far."
Inter Milan will have the task of containing Andriy Shevchenko and Kaka, the leaders of the Rossoneri attack. Shevchenko also has five Serie A strikes already this season.
AC Milan has recently dominated the matchup between the two rivals as Inter has not posted a derby victory since 2002.
