Orchard Park, NY (My Sportsbook) - The Buffalo Bills have released veteran wide receiver Bobby Shaw on Wednesday after the veteran slipped to fifth on the depth chart. Shaw, who was the Bills third leading receiver in 2003 with career-highs in catches (56) and yards (732), caught just five balls for 59 yards in the club's first four games this season. He did not play in a week 4 loss to New England. Signed by Buffalo as an unrestricted free agent in March 2003, Shaw became Drew Bledsoe's primary third-down target as he led the team with 24 catches on third down and had four touchdowns on the year. However, his role has diminished this season for the winless Bills (0-4) and he had become very unhappy with his lack of production. "We felt like we could be more productive at that position and we're going to move on," said head coach Mike Mularkey during his Wednesday news conference. The drafting of Lee Evans in the first round prompted the Bills to drop Shaw into the role of backup and fourth receiver. However, Shaw never got in a flow after playing behind Evans and Josh Reed. In his 81 career games, Shaw, who was drafted by Seattle in 1998, has 197 receptions for 2,784 yards with 14 touchdowns with Pittsburgh, Jacksonville and the Bills. Second-year receiver Sam Aiken and fourth-year pro Drew Haddad are expected to get more reps now that Shaw has been released.
